Alan Pensler has been active in dealing and researching works of art since 1976. After operating Pensler Galleries in Washington D.C. for over twenty years, he now works privately in dealing and researching American and European paintings and works on paper. He has expertise in the works of Arthur Dove, Abraham Manievich, and Joseph Stella, all of whom he has written on extensively. Pensler is the custodian of the Arthur Dove catalogue raisonné begun by Suzanne Mullet Smith, who Dove appointed his biographer in 1943. He is also a representative of the estates of Joseph Stella and Abraham Manievich.
